Did you know that one of the ways you can help prevent weakened bones is by being physically active? Weight-bearing exercises, done three to four times a week, are best for keeping bones strong and preventing osteoporosis. What are weight-bearing exercises? Endurance exercises like walking, jogging, playing tennis, and dancing can help you strengthen your bones while getting your heart pumping. Strength exercises use weights, resistance bands, or your own body to help keep your muscles strong. Along with balance exercises, they can also help you avoid falls, which can cause fractures or broken bones. Learn more about osteoporosis from the National Institute on Aging at NIH. |
