We are very excited to welcome Douglas Nelson, LMT, BCMTB, CNMT, as our new Massage Therapy Foundation President.

Doug has worked tirelessly behind the scenes for MTF as a volunteer, fundraiser, and guest blogger. He is a passionate advocate for massage therapy.

Doug began his career in massage therapy in 1977 and maintains an active clinical practice. His particular interest in the role of soft tissue in performance has served his work as a neuromuscular therapy teacher and consultant to teams in the NBA and NFL, dance companies, and professional musicians.

He has published numerous journal and magazine articles and is the author of two books. He has been the recipient of many awards in his field, including the 2013 Massage Therapy Educator of the Year and the 2015 Pioneer Award from the Illinois Chapter of the American Massage Therapy Association.

As our new President, Doug brings with him a wealth of experience and expertise that will be a tremendous asset to furthering the Foundation's mission of bringing scientific research, education, and community service to the massage therapy profession.

Be Part of Something Greater

Massage is a lifeline that makes all the difference in the world to individuals struggling with the unimaginable; amputations, serious burns, terminal illness (in children and adults), cancer, HIV, domestic violence, chronic pain, and many others. Yet these populations often lack access to massage therapy.

MTF Community Service Grants bring massage therapy to those who need it most. Our education initiatives increase the quality of care that massage therapists are able to provide. Our Research Grants and other research resources enhance the understanding of the role of therapeutic massage in health-care delivery.

Please consider joining us in making a huge difference in the lives of others and the future of the massage therapy profession. Become part of something greater; a movement to advance the knowledge and practice of massage therapy.
