Beat the heat! Exercise safely in hot weather.

Go4Life: Fitness news from the National Institute on Aging at N I H

As weather gets warmer, many people enjoy outdoor activities such as gardening, playing tennis, or going for a walk. However, too much heat can be risky for older adults, so it's important to exercise safely in hot weather. Here are some helpful tips:

  • Check the weather forecast to see if it's very hot or humid.
  • Drink plenty of liquids.
  • Wear light-colored, loose-fitting clothes.
  • Dress in layers so you can remove clothing as your body warms up.
